Welcome to Gatehouse Montessori School
Gatehouse Montessori School is non-denominational, not for profit, society which is overseen by an at-arms-length board, dedicated to supporting and maintaining the outstanding quality and reputation the school has enjoyed on the North Shore since 1979.
Gatehouse is led by a caring, experienced Montessori administrator, who nurtures and mentors an equally dedicated Montessori and ECE (Early Childhood Educator) trained staff.

Gatehouse Montessori Programs
Our program is specifically designed to encompass a three-year cycle, which coincides with the crucial development of children aged 3-6. This learning period has been recognized by educational experts as a critical stage in a child's educational development. Children begin our program at age three, progressing through specific milestones within the Montessori environment in preparation for their third and final year as kindergarten students.
Morning Half-Day Preschool Program
Gatehouse offers a morning Preschool Program, which runs from Monday to Friday: 8:30 am - 11:30 am
Afternoon Half-Day Preschool Program
Based on demand, Gatehouse will offer an Afternoon Preschool Program, which runs from Monday to Friday: 12:15 pm - 3:00 pm
Extended-Day Programs
The Extended-Day Program is for 3-year-olds and up, and is a continuation of our morning Half-Day Program, which runs from 11:30am - 3:00pm
Option 1: 5 Days Extended from Monday - Friday
Option 2: 3 Days Extended from Tuesday - Thursday
Full-Day Kindergarten Program
The all-day Kindergarten (Third Year) program runs from Monday to Friday: 8:30 am - 3:00 pm
French Program
Taught by a professional French-speaking teacher dedicated solely to teaching French
Preschool: once per week
Kindergarten: twice per week

Why Montessori
Why Montessori
At Gatehouse Montessori School we follow the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori which emphasize the importance of recognizing each aspect of a child’s life emotionally, socially, physically and intellectually...the whole child. Dr. Montessori observed that when the child is actively working with their hands, refining and educating their senses, they develop concentration, self-awareness and positive social interaction skills. She especially observed that we are social beings who have a need to develop feelings of belonging to a community. For this reason, we strive to develop guidelines that are minimal and clear. We demonstrate “how to do” rather than “how not to do”.
